EMI-Mag introduces the digital pre-distortion (DPD) multi-carrier power amplifier (MCPA) for the PCS and W-CDMA base station and repeater markets.


The DPD-linearized power amplifier is the first multi-carrier power amplifier in the market, which demonstrates the highest efficiency possible, critically required in base stations and repeaters.  
 
Kibbutz Eyal, Israel – July 10, 2005 – EMI Mag, developer of multi-carrier power amplifiers (MCPAs), linear power amplifiers (LPAs) and high power amplifiers (HPAs) for advanced wireless communication and defense systems, presents its new DPD MCPA for W-CDMA and PCS base stations and repeaters.  The product leverages the company’s expertise in MCPAs and adaptive feed forward linearization schemes.  The innovative and proprietary digital pre-distortion linearization scheme is implemented over proprietary-optimized MCPAs, demonstrating enhanced efficiency of over 17%, and significant reduction in form factor (size, weight), and price.

“We are proud to present the attractive features of our newest product, the DPD-based MCPA,” says Arie Carp, VP of engineering at EMI Mag.  “The implementation of our proprietary DPD algorithm introduced a tremendous challenge, which we met successfully.  Our MCPA implements small memory, thereby addressing bias circuits and thermal effects, which are typical in large memory MCPAs. Our product features highly linearized operation, up to 55dB gain, analog, digital IF or digital baseband inputs, and is available in two enclosures, module and rack-mount.”

The new DPD-linearized MCPA supports high operating bandwidth of 20MHz, and demonstrates excellent pick-to-average performance of 10-13 dB, the best available in the market.

“The DPD product line strengthens our global market presence in Korea and in other world regions where we are active,” says Zohar Ramon, CEO at EMI Mag and the EMI Group. “Working closely with our Korean partners, we are introducing the first commercially available DPD-linearized MCPA, supporting up to 14 carriers for PCS band, and up to 4 carriers for W-CDMA band. With the existing feed forward MCPAs, we gained significant penetration into the repeater market, as demonstrated by our dominant footprint in Korea.  The DPD-based MCPAs solidify our position in the repeater markets, and extend our attractive offering into dual-band repeaters and base stations markets as well.”

The product is available for orders, and can be shipped in small quantities in 4Q05, and in commercial quantities starting Jan. 2006. The company is now evolving the product to support one or two carriers only, at a substantially reduced price.
